The Downfall

Detroit was once a great city. Bustling with people and cars, shining in the night with clubs, bars, and factories. It was even called "Paris of The West." Then in the riots of the 1960's, Detroit was gutted. Business moved out, people moved out, and the city became dangerous. Once it became dangerous, The police couldnt keep up, and eventually they stopped trying. The city got even worse. In the housing crisis of the early 2000's, even more people moved out. Only a couple houses on a block would be occupied, legally that is. It seemed like the city was doomed to cascade into an ever-spiraling downwards path into oblivion.

Bringing Back Business

It started in about 2013 with a new Mayor and a new police chief. They had a mess on their hands and a long way to go before they could make the city a great place again. Mayor Mike Duggan and police chief James E. Craig took many long strides in bringing back businesses, cleaning up downtown, repairing old, iconic, buildings, and adding security to many parts of the city. This allowed businesses both big and small to move in to the city without fear, citizens to move in and make a good home, and brought many jobs to those already living in the city. "The city is the safest I've ever seen it!" -Random passerby who wanted to stay anonymous.
